As we’ve said previously, the aim of this Conversation section is to get you gradually accustomed to the fairly unique rhythm of the Spanish language. We think the best way to do that for you to listen to simple dialogues featuring native Spaniards and Latin Americans speaking at close to their normal speed.
In this class, we’ll listen to a series of conversations between a shopper and a shop assistant in a clothing store.
The texts of the conversations are included at the bottom of the page. However, please try not to look at them until you’ve listened to each dialogue at least twice! You probably won’t understand every word, but see if you can pick up the gist of each conversation.

How did you get on with those conversations? Both women were speaking at more or less natural speed, and the language used was exactly what you would hear if you were out shopping in Barcelona or Madrid.
Now, we’re not going to give you the English translations of these dialogues as we want you to get used to thinking exclusively in Spanish. However, we do provide a few grammar and vocabulary explanations at the bottom of the page.
In all these conversations, #1 is the shopper/client (cliente/a) and #2 is the shop assistant (dependienta).
1- Hola, ¿qué precio tienen estos zapatos?
2- Estos zapatos cuestan 120€.
3- ¿Me puedo probar una talla 43?
4- Si por supuesto, ahora mismo se los traigo.
5- ¡Muchas gracias!
1- ¡Buenos días! ¿Podría probarme este abrigo?
2- ¡Buenos días! Sí, los probadores están a la izquierda.

2- Aquí tenemos la nueva temporada.
1- Genial, pues voy mirando.
1- ¡Me encanta este vestido! ¿Qué precio tiene?
2- Sí, es muy bonito. Cuesta 180€.
1- Ostras, se me escapa del presupuesto.
2- Tengo otros modelos parecidos más económicos.
1- ¡Me gustaría verlos, gracias!
2- Ahora se los enseño.
1- ¿Disculpe, tiene una talla más pequeña de este modelo?
2- Ahora lo miro, creo que sí.
1- ¿También podría mirarme una talla más grande de este otro?

Key nouns from our shopping conversations:
A verb which you’ll almost certainly need if you are shopping in Spain is ‘probarse’. This is a reflexive verb, so you must always use the corresponding reflexive pronoun: me, te, se, nos, os, se.
If we use the infinitive of the verb, we can form our sentences with different word orders:
