If you live in the United States then you really have no excuse for not visiting the Yucatan peninsula at least once in your life.
The peninsula has hundreds of kilometres of beautiful white beaches and lots of interesting historic and natural attractions.
In this listening, aimed at intermediate or advanced beginner students, we’ll find out some basic facts about Yucatan and its attractions.

La península de Yucatán se encuentra en la costa sureste de México. Al este se encuentra el mar Caribe y al oeste el golfo de México. El Yucatán tiene más de 300 kilómetros de costa caribeña y aquí encontramos algunas de las playas más bellas de México. La península también posee muchos lugares históricos, como los templos de la civilización maya en Chichén Itzá y la ciudad colonial de Mérida. La combinación de bellas playas y sitios históricos atrae a millones de visitantes cada año, sobre todo estadounidenses. Entre los turistas estadounidenses los destinos más populares son Tulum, Playa del Carmen y, por supuesto, Cancún.
The Yucatan peninsula is located in the south east of Mexico, with the Caribbean sea to the east and the waters of the Gulf of Mexico to the west. The Yucatan has more than 300km of Caribbean coast and here you’ll find many of the best beaches in Mexico. The peninsula also has many historic sites, such as the Mayan temples at Chichen Itza and the colonial city of Merida. The combination of beautiful beaches and historic sites attracts millions of visitors every year, above all from the United States. Amongst American tourists the most popular destinations are Tulum, Playa del Carmen and, of course, Cancun.
