You may not have heard of Cadaqués, but you will, almost certainly, know the name of one of its most famous residents. Find out who it is in this short Spanish listening class.
This listening is aimed at advanced beginner students and gives us some great examples of how to use the Spanish present tense (Presente de indicativo)
In this class we’ll also look at the TWO Spanish verbs which mean ‘to be’.

Cadaqués es un pueblo pequeño de la Costa Brava. Para ser precisos, está ubicado en la provincia de Girona, a 20km de la frontera con Francia. Cadaqués tiene una población de solo 3 mil personas, pero recibe decenas de miles de visitantes cada verano. Cadaqués es conocido por ser uno de los pueblos más bonitos de España. El famoso artista, Salvador Dalí, vivió en el pueblo durante muchos años, y su antigua casa es, hoy en día, un museo que atrae a miles de visitantes cada semana.
Cadaques is a small village on the Costa Brava. To be precise, it is located in the province of Girona, 20km from the border with France. Cadaques has a population of only 3 thousand people, but it receives tens of thousands of visitors every summer. Cadaques is known as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. The famous artist Salvador Dali lived in the village for many years, and today his former home is a museum which attracts thousands of visitors every week.

The Presente de Indicativo is the first tense you’ll need to master in Spanish. It’s the equivalent of the English Simple Present.

To be, or not to be?
Spanish actually has two different verbs for ‘to be’. These are Ser and Estar. We’ve seen examples in our text on Cadaqués:
