Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara is the face of one of the most iconic photos of the twentieth century. This guerrilla fighter was actually born into a middle-class family in Argentina, but went on to become one of the leading figures of the Cuban revolution.
This listening is aimed at intermediate or advanced beginner students, and gives some really useful examples of talking about past events in Spanish.

Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara nació en Rosario, Argentina en 1928. El ‘Che’ se hizo famoso en la revolución cubana de los años cincuenta, luchando contra la dictadura del presidente Batista. Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara was born in Rosario, Argentina in 1928. ‘Che’ became famous fighting against president Batista in the Cuban revolution of the 1950s. After the victory of the revolution, Che Guevara was minister of Industry for 4 years. In 1966 ‘Che’ travelled to Bolivia to fight for the communist guerrilla in that country. He died in a shootout with the Bolivian army in October 1967.

Although he wasn’t the first to say it, Guevara is often associated with this quote about human dignity and the fight against oppression.
